Architectural Sheet Metal
Architectural sheet metal includes the design, fabrication, and installation
of sheet metals products that are used on the exteriors of structures for weatherproofing
and/or beautification. This type of work can be a very exciting and rewarding
career. Architectural sheet metal is often highly visible to the public, giving
you as a craftsperson a sense of pride and accomplishment in showing off your
skills. This highly skilled trade can also be very financially rewarding with
above average wages and benefit packages. Another benefit is that on-the-job
and classroom training are provided to you through an apprenticeship program,
with little or no out-of-pocket expenses to you.
Some of the skills you will learn and master throughout your apprenticeship
training are:
- Trade related math
- Communication and supervisory skills
- Sketching and drawing techniques
- Measuring and lay-out techniques
- Job site safety
- Waterproofing practices and moisture control
- Roof & wall system design and installation
- The ability to work with many exotic and unique materials
- Welding, soldering and distortion control techniques
- Many other areas such as material handling, hoisting & rigging,
etc.
