Architectural
Architectural sheet metal is the oldest field in the sheet metal industry.
Architectural sheet metal work consists of any metal work (functional or decorative)
that adds to the appearance of a building. This includes but is not limited
to: metal roofs, metal siding, gutters and downspouts, steeples, fascia, etc.
This curriculum teaches students several areas of architectural work.
Subjects that students in this curriculum will study include: Roof systems,
Wall systems, Drainage systems, Louvers and Ventilators, Supports and
Substrates, Restoration and Finishing. Also covered in this curriculum
are specialized layout and fabrication techniques specific to the architectural
industry, as well as, field installation techniques and safety procedures.
Students in this curriculum will also learn about different types of
materials and tools used in this field.
The architectural sheet metal worker will work mostly on the outside of
a building. Students that enjoy being outside and like the challenge of
installing items that will be seen by many people for hundreds of years,
would find the architectural field very rewarding.
