How Do I Become HVAC Certified?
Print out the Standards and Application and read carefully. Contact your
JATC Coordinator for tests available at the JATC.
DOWNLOAD and PRINT the HVAC Policies and Procedures Manual
Certified HVAC Technician
- Obtain and maintain an Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Type I, II, III, or Universal Card; and
- Pass one of the following Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration
Institute's
(AHRI) Industry Competency Exams (ICE):
- Residential air conditioning and heating equipment
(systems of five tons or less)
- Light commercial air conditioning and heating
equipment (systems of six to twenty tons)
- Commercial refrigeration
Certified HVAC Master Mechanic
- Be an ITI Certified HVAC Technician
- Hold an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Universal Card and
- Have passed the
North American Technician Excellence’s (NATE) test consisting of the
Core
Test, Air Conditioning Test AND
ONE Of The Following:
- Air Distribution Test
- Gas Heating Test
- Oil Heating Test
OR
Note: If a candidate passes the Heat Pump Specialty exam this will qualify
him/her for the Air Conditioning Specialty so: Core and Heat Pump Specialty
would classify him/her a "HVAC Master Mechanic". (see NATE
rules).
After completing the testing criteria, you may apply to ITI for certification.
